Winter Frame Drum Making Intensive 2026

I am excited to be hosting another year of crafting beautiful frame drums at the Steam & Lumber studio. It is such an honour to spend time with fellow creatives, slowly crafting a musical instrument with a deep attention to materials, conversations flowing and of course, sharing food together. My intention with this intensive is more than simply handcrafting a frame drum— it is an invitation into your own creative processes and daily rituals that give life its meaning.

Over the three days participants will learn traditional steam-bending methods, using hand-tools for shaping the shell, skin selection and application (Please note: We use goat skin in this course), hand-hammering brass zills (Cymbals) and more.

There is a maximum of three (3) people in each course so book early to avoid disappointment.
